Duxford Autumn Airshow - 16th October 2011 "Remembering the Korean War" 'STATICS' Page 1 of 6
My third visit to Duxford in 2011. This airshow closed the 2011 airshow season. The theme of the show was 'Korea: The Forgotten War'.
The weather for most of the day was superb, warm and sunny. The highlight of the day was the F-16 Fighting Falcon display from the Belgian Air Force, the aircraft being flown for the final time by Michel ‘Mitch’ Buelen, a stunning finale, with the addition of some very unexpected flares being released!! Also of particular note was Air Atlantique’s Gloster Meteor T7, newly painted and flown by Dan Griffiths.
Opening the show was Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress 'Sally B', 1244857, she was followed by the Fighter Collection's North American TF-51D Mustang and Supermarine Spitfire Mk XIVe. The TF-51D Mustang 'Miss Velma' was beautifully flown by Stephen Grey, The Fighter Collection’s Spitfire Mk XIVe was a late addition to the flying as the TFC's Sea Fury T20 was sadly unserviceable.
RAF representation came in the form of a pair of Shorts T1 Tucanos, Flt Lt Dan Hayes displayed the specially painted silver Tucano ZF378 and a BAe Hawk T.1, XX158 from 19(R) Squadron based at RAF Valley was in the static. The Royal Navy were represented by the 'Black Cats' team flying two Westland Lynx HMA8's.
Duxford provided the majority of participants in what turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable day.
