Duxford Airshow 27th May 2012 "The Jubilee Airshow" 'STATICS' Page 2 of 2
My first visit to Duxford in 2012. This airshow was being held to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
The weather for the event was perfect, wall to wall sunshine, although the light, at times, was a bit harsh, just something else for the photographers amongst us to cope with. This was Duxford's opening show of 2012 and, for many, marks the start of the airshow season. The RAF was well represented, there was also the usual mix of warbirds and civilian displays. Duxford's first show of the season and the glorious May weather attracted well over 17,000 spectators so room was definitely at a premium.
Highlight of the day was definitely the Belgian Air Components F-16AM Fighting Falcon resplendent in its new colour scheme which spent a large part of its display popping numerous flares. Other items of note was the RAF's Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 flown by Squadron Leader Scott Loughran, together with the B200 King Air, Shorts Tucano and BAe Hawk T.1A. Duxford was represented, amongst others, by the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress 'Sally B', numerous Spitfires and Hurricane XII, Z5140. The BBMF also took part with a display by their Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane.
