The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at North Weald Airfield

10th July 2015 Page 2 of 3

I had been looking forward to this event from the moment I found out about it, the

chance to get up close & personal with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's

selection of WWII aircraft was an opportunity I couldn't miss.

The Flight were to base themselves at North Weald prior to their flypast over

Buckingham Palace, arriving from RAF Coningsby at around 9.30AM in the morning.

At around 11.30AM the flight took off for their planned flypast over the Palace,

arriving back about 40 minutes later with 3 awesome flypasts in formation

over the airfield!!

Present during the day were 6 BBMF aircraft including 4 Supermarine Spitfires

& 2 Hawker Hurricanes. As well as the flypast over Buckingham Palace the

day was also being sponsored by the famous watchmakers, Breitling.

In fact, there was a 7th aircraft present throughout the day, namely, the Breitling sponsored

Supermarine Spitfire, MH434.

What a lineup... 7 WWII era aircraft of which 5 were Spitfires & 2 were Hurricanes.

Breitling was also flying selected guests in it's Douglas DC-3 Dakota, HB-IRJ.

The Norwegian Historic Flight's 2 De Havilland Vampires turned up early afternoon to refuel

prior to heading off to display at an airshow somewhere in the UK.

Peter Teichman's Supermarine Spitfire PR Mk.XI, PL965 also flew!!

To top off the day the weather was perfect, hot & sunny with gorgeous blue skies.

This section contains around 210 unique images taken on the day:
