The Gnat Display Team Fly Their First 3-Ship

at North Weald Airfield 13/04/14 Page 2 of 3

The Gnat Display Team had let it be known that they would be flying

their first 3-ship practice display during the weekend of the 12th & 13th April,

this would be in preparation for the 2014 airshow season.

I visited the airfield on the 13th April. It was a superb day with the Team going up 3 times.

The first two flights consisted of all three aircraft, the third flight at the end of the

afternoon was just a 2-ship. One of the 3-ship flights also included a camera ship for some

air-to-air photography, the aircraft used was BAC 167 Strikemaster Mk.84 311 (G-MXPH).

The Gnat Display Team consists of the Ex-Yellowjacks Gnat XR992,

XR538, the red & white Gnat and the immaculate XS111 resplendent in its new paint scheme.

The weather conditions were pretty much perfect with wall-to-wall sunshine.

Adding to the spectacle of 3 Gnats flying together was the use of the smoke generators,

awesome, in the almost total blue skies!
