RAF Mildenhall 26th January 2010 Page 1 of 2
After not visiting any Air Bases since November 2009 I decided to spend the day
at RAF Mildenhall. Luckily the weather was good all day although it was, at times,
very, very cold. The light throughout the day was excellent
It turned out to be a really good day with something happening most of the time.
Just as I arrived at 9am a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III was readying for departure.
The base KC-135 Stratotanker's were flying throughout the day. Also departing in
the morning and using the under-run was a Boeing RC-135 'Rivet Joint'.
Flying around for a couple of hours doing touch-and-go's was a NATO Boeing E-3 AWACS
and also a couple of the RAF lakenheath based Boeing F-15E Strike Eagles were also doing
touch-and-go's. Mid afternoon saw the arrival of an Evergreen Boeing 747 and late afternoon
saw a Lockheed MC-130P Combat Shadow doing a few circuits, and best of all arrivals and
departures were all via Runway '11.
