Unveiling P-40 "Lulu Belle" at North Weald Airfield 02/06/13 Page 1 of 2
On 2nd June 2013 I attended the unveiling of Curtiss P-40N Kittyhawk "Lulu Belle" at North Weald Airfield in Essex. The aircraft is part of the Hangar 11 collection of WWII era aircraft owned and operated by Peter Teichman. At the unveiling, it wasn't known what the aircraft was to be called until the covers were removed by the Hangar 11 ground crew. Up until this point it went by its previous name of "Clawin’ Kitty". Peter had advertised to the aviation community via facebook that he would be unveiling the aircraft in its new paint scheme and it would have been rude not to attend, even the weather played ball! The aircraft flies with the serial 42-104590, its civil registration is G-KITT. The aircraft is painted as that of 2nd Lieutenant Philip Adair, who flew this aircraft while serving with the 89th Fighter Squadron (Burma Banshees), 80th Fighter Group/10th Air Force during the first half of 1944, while based at Nagaghuli, India. Also making a surprise appearence during the afternoon was the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Douglas DC-3 Dakota ZA947 which flew almost directly over the Hangar 11 hangar. Other items of note were a Yak-52, G-YOTS and Nanchang CJ-6A, G-BVVG coded 68. I'd like to thank everyone involved with the Hangar11 collection of warbirds for there terrific hospitality.
