Aero Legends at North Weald Airfield 04/06/19
On the 4th of June 2019 I made another visit to North Weald Airfield in Essex. I'd become aware that the Aero Legends group who own several Spitfires & Douglas C-47 Skytrain 'Drag-Em-Oot', 42-100882, N473DC, were to be on the airfield, prior to heading off to Headcorn and then going on to Normandy in France for the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings which were happening on the 5th June.
I arrived shortly after 9am, the C-47 Skytrain was already surrounded by members of the public and I was told two of Aero Legends three Spitfires would shortly be arriving from their home airfield at Headcorn. Apparently, the third Spitfire was unserviceable. At around 9.20am the two Merlin engines of the Spitfires could be heard in the distance, after a run and break over the airfield the two Spitfires proceeded to land.
The Spitfires were the Mk.IX single seater TD314 P-FX & the Mk.IXT two seater NH341 E-DB called 'Elizabeth' they were being piloted by Antony Parkinson 'Parky' & Charlie Brown.
Shortly before midday all three aircraft departed the airfield. Before heading off to Headcorn they did a three-ship formation flypast which was a real sight to behold.
Luckily, the two Spitfires & C-47 were able to depart, in some rather blustery & grey conditions, only shortly before the heavens opened & the rains came.
