Cold War Jets Day at Bruntingthorpe Airfield,
on August 26th 2018
On the 26th of August 2018 I attended one of the twice yearly Cold War Jets Days
held at Bruntingthorpe Airfield in Leicestershire.
The event is held to showcase the collection of fast taxyable jets, which are based
on the airfield. Unfortunately, none of the aircraft are in an airworthy condition, but at least
they're still live, so you can still get all the noise & the great smell of jet fumes! :-)
The weather forecast for the event, was, to say the least, awful, with rain from around
10am onwards. The forecasters were pretty much spot on, unfortunately, but with
all that rain the photographs that were possible certainly had a unique atmosphere,
with water being sucked into air intakes & thrown up behind aircraft as they hurtled down the runway.
The highlight for me was probably the 2 Blackburn S.2B Buccaneers which certainly threw up
plenty of the wet stuff! This was just before my camera died! :-(
I did manage to get a few static images of the aircraft on display before the event itself
began at 11am. Most aircraft did run apart from the De Havilland Comet 4C 'Canopus'.
This was a very memorable & enjoyable event, even with, or maybe because of, the heavy rain,
right up to the point my camera decided it was no longer going to work in the damp conditons.
It actually made a change to watch the aircraft without camera in hand.
