Duxford American Air Museum and Hangars

A visit to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford on Tuesday 20th February 2024.

I spent some time wandering around the American Air Museum, the main reason being to see my

favourite aircraft, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. This aircraft, 17962 (61-7962), which was based at RAF Mildenhall

during it's service life, is the only aircraft of its type located outside of the US.

I also toured around all the Duxford hangars which contained a number of Duxford's airworthy collection of aircraft

undergoing winter maintenance. This was a terrific opportunity to get up close to these aircraft on the ground.

It was also interesting to see Duxford's collection of non-airworthy museum exhibits.

One of the hangars had an exhibition running titled 'Spies in the Skies', which was to come to an end

a couple of days after my visit.

The only flying of note was from one of Duxford's De Havilland Dragon DH-89A Rapides, TX310, 'Nettie', G-AIDL,

which is owned and operated by Classic Wings.
