Jet Fest 2018 - 3 days of Jet Heritage held at North Weald Airfield

on 28th/29th/30th September 2018 Page 1 of 3

The Gnat Display Team had let it be known that they wanted to showcase their, virtually complete, Folland Gnat F.1 to

the public for the very first time. Jet Fest 2018 would be the first occasion their unique aircraft was to be 'fast taxied'.

The Team had successfully had a series of engine runs on the aircraft but hadn't taxied the aircraft before,

so this was to be a real first!

Friday 28th September 2018 would actually be the first time the aircraft was successfully fast taxied before its official

unveiling the next day, Saurday 29th September 2018. The event would also run on the Sunday as well but

I only attended the first two days. The Friday would also include a 'pay to attend' Nightshoot of all the aircraft present. :-)

Folland Gnat F.1, G-SLYR, is the Team's major restoration project, it has been slowly rebuilt over the last few years

in preparation for its return to flight, which will hopefully be some time in 2019.

Jet Fest 2018 would bring together a selection of jet (and prop) aircraft consisting mainly of those that reside at North Weald,

seeing 5 Folland Gnats together is something really unique to North Weald & they really are fabulous looking little jets.

Visitors to the event includied a couple of Jet Provosts, Aero L-29 Delfin, G-DLFN from Coventry Airport, from Howarden,

the two NWMAS Strikemasters of the Strikemasters Display Team. Also flying in for a welcome visit was a Pilatus PC-12, G-DYLN,

which resides at Biggin Hill Airport & is owned & operated by one of the Gnat Display Team Pilots.

It was great to see the Douglas C-54 Skymaster being wheeled across the taxyway so it could also

take part in the event. Another aircraft which will hopefully be returned to flight before too long.

I'd like to thank everyone involved, Pilots & Engineers, everyone, for a really fantastic couple of days.
