Bruntingthorpe Airfield, November 17th 2013 Page 2 of 2
On the 17th of November 2013 pretty much the entire collection of aircraft held at
Bruntingthorpe Airfield in Leicestershire was put on display in a special one-off Photoshoot.
The event was held to showcase the collection but also to enable enthusiasts to see
3 Vickers VC-10's together for the last time before ZA147 is scrapped, XR808 'Bob' goes to Cosford
& the last one, ZD241 is kept as a runner for fast taxying at Bruntingthorpe. (That's the current thinking anyway!).
The lineup of 28 aircraft on the runway, really an awesome sight to behold, included,
3 x Vickers VC-10's, BAe Nimrod MR.2P, XV226, Handley Page Victor K.2, XM715,
De Havilland Comet 4.C, XS235, English Electric Canberra B(I)8/B.6 MOD WT333,
2 x English Electric Lightning F.6's, XS904 & XR728, 4 x Jet Provosts, XM365, XP672, XN584 & XN582,
3 x Hawker Hunters, XX467, WT806, & XL565. 3 x Blackburn S.2B Buccaneers, XX900, XW544 & XX889,
BAe Sea Harrier FRS.2, ZD610, Lockheed F-104G Starfighter, 22+35, De Havilland Sea Vixen, XJ494,
Sepecat Jaguar, XZ382, Dassault Mystere, 8-MV, Gloster Meteor, 4X-FNA, L-29 Delphin, 53,
Scottish Aviation Jetstream T.1, XX494 & Westland Scout AH.1, XT630.
We were also lucky to catch Tornado GR1, ZA326, being towed to its new hangar prior to reassembly.
This was a truly memorable event which, I hope, will one day be repeated, my thanks go to
everyone at Bruntingthorpe for all their hard work and also for providing the cherry picker which
provided some great photo opportunities... I went up twice!
