RAF Mildenhall 7th May 2014

This was my first trip to RAF Mildenhall in 2014, the weather didn't look great but I decided

to go, just on the off-chance that there might be some interesting activity.

I was hoping that I might get to see one or more of the Bell/Boeing CV-22B Ospreys flying, I

knew chances were slim, as they only seemed to be flying in the evening, but, fortunately, my luck was in!

It turned out to be a really good day, lots of flying from the home team, including a number of

touch-and-go's by a base Lockheed MC-130H Combat Talon II, 87-0024 of the 7th SOS callsign "TALON 71",

the type, sadly, are soon to be retired.

RAF Mildenhall based Boeing KC-135R Stratotankers, were up & about at regular intervals,

then at around 2.45PM one of the CV-22B Ospreys started turning its rotors, things were looking promising,

luvvly jubbly!! :-)

The CV-22B, 11-0058 of the 7th SOS, callsign "KNIFE 75" departed at 15:03, did a circuit of the airfield,

landed, took off again & finally left the airfield at around 15:11. I left before the aircraft returned which

was well over two hours later.

It was a cloudy day mostly all day and very gusty, well worth the effort of getting there though.

Arrivals/departures were via Runway 29.
