RAF Mildenhall 17th February 2015
This was my first trip to RAF Mildenhall in 2015, the weather forecast looked to be better than it
had been for several weeks. I'd arranged to meet a friend at the airfield so I headed
off to the base early, at just after 7AM.
To cut a long story short I got held up on the A1M for a couple of hours due to a traffic incident
& didn't actually arrive at RAF Mildenhall until around 10AM just as an Osprey was departing for Germany, and just my luck, I couldn't get my camera gear ready in time so I missed it! :-(
The weather on the day was pretty much perfect but there was no flying whatsoever until mid afternoon.
The first aircraft was a Lockheed MC-130J Hercules, 12-5760, which arrived at around 13:50 followed
soon after by the highlight of my day, a Boeing RC-135W Rivet Joint, 62-4132.
A couple of based KC-135 Stratotankers departed soon after, one of which returned to do some
touch-and-go's and general handling exercises.
Another highlight was a streamed take-off by two Lockheed MC-130J's, something I'd not seen
before & very nice it was too. These two Hercules aircraft were 11-5737 & 11-5733.
All in all not a bad day, the light was gorgeous too, gutted I missed the Osprey though!
Arrivals/departures were via Runway 29.
