Mikoyan Mig-15UTI 'Red 18' at North Weald Airfield 19/02/16
On the 19th of February 2016 I made another visit to North Weald Airfield in Essex.
Fortunately, it was sunny all day with lovely blue skies but it was bitterly cold.
I was there to photograph the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron's
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15UTI, which is also known as “RED 18”.
The aircraft is painted and marked as “RED 18” to represent Russian-Soviet pilot
and cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin's MiG-15.
I was very fortunate to receive an invite from the owner of the aircraft to get
'up close' & also to photograph the cockpit & stand on the wing, an opportunity I
simply could not miss.
N104CJ “RED 18” is a Polish built SB Lim-2 ( licensed built Mig-15UTI ) -
this particular airframe was originally built as a single seater Lim-1 in 1952 -
later converted to a two seater - Polish AF serial 104 c/n 1A-01004. Sold to the USA in 1993.
Also active during my visit was BAC Jet Provost T.3, XN637, (G-BKOU).
