RAF Lakenheath Wednesday 3rd December 2025
I decided to visit RAF Lakenheath, my last visit before Xmas, I'd seen the weather forecast & it looked good, sunshine all day & not too cold.
Arriving a little before 7am, I was the first person there. I was hoping they might be using runway 05 but after listening to ATIS it confirmed runway 23 would be in use. With the light being so good during my visit this was actually no bad thing.
Up until around 11.00am there was very little activity apart from the departure of two F-35A Lightning II's which had been waiting quite some time for one of the tankers to depart from RAF Mildenhall.
At around 11.30am flying started with a vengeance, at one point sixteen Boeing F-15E Strike Eagles departed, one after another, what a fantastic sight to see especially with reports that the aircrfaft is to be withdrawn from service at RAF Lakenheath in 2027. After the departure of the F-15E's it was the turn of the Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II's to depart. I lost count of how many were to leave in the next half an jour or so. Then there was the return of all these aircraft to come over the next couple of hours. What a day & with some gorgeous winter light too. This section contains 52 images taken during my visit:
